The best time for whale watching in Mirissa is from November to April, with peak season being December to March. During this period, blue whales and sperm whales migrate through the waters off Mirissa, offering the highest chances of sightings. The calm seas during this time also provide better viewing conditions.
Our whale watching tours typically last 4-6 hours, departing early in the morning (around 6:30 AM) and returning by midday. This timing coincides with when whales are most active and visible. The tour includes time for searching, observing, and enjoying the marine wildlife, plus a break for refreshments.
We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a light jacket (it can be windy on the water), and a camera with extra batteries. We provide life jackets and basic refreshments. If you're prone to seasickness, consider taking medication before the tour. Binoculars are provided on board.
While we have a high success rate (over 90% during peak season), whale sightings are never guaranteed as these are wild animals. If no whales are spotted, we offer a 50% discount on your next tour. However, most tours encounter dolphins, sea turtles, and other marine life, making the experience worthwhile regardless.
